The American Red Cross

  • The American Red Cross responds to some kind of emergency every 8 minutes. It makes sure victims have enough food, clothing, shelter and other nescessities.
  • The Red Cross gives health and safety training to the public and provides emergency social services to U.S. military members and their families.
  • The American Red Cross was found in Washington D.C. on May 21, 1881 by Clara Barton. She did not found the idea of the Red Cross but established the society in AmOutside signerica.
  • The American Red Cross is the largest humanitarian network that also works with international organizations, such as Red Cross and Red Crescent, that work with outside nongovernmental organizations
  • Lives are not saved by the Red Cross because of there critical blood donation work that collects more than 6 million units of blood per year, but there are also more than 11 million people a year that learn skills that will help them save their own lives but also lives of others.
  • Keeping families connected in a crisis is a 24-hour-a-day, 7-day-a-week commitment of the Red Cross.
  • Not only does the Greater Toledo Chapter help with national disaster, but it also helps daily with many local disasters. According to the Toledo Chapter, house fires are more common then most people think.
  • The Toledo Chapter helps victims of house fires on average of 4 times a week. Making sure they have shelter and food until they can get back to their normal lives.
  • Just in the year of 2008-2009, the Red Cross Greater Toledo Chapter helped over 1,139 people who were victims on disasters to their homes.
  • Over 1,000+ volunteers gave their time in the chapter's programs and services, and about 141 students were part of the organization.

and respond to emergencies."
